We are a Musical Ensemble based in San Marcos, Texas - just South of Austin
This website has just launched, more will be added soon.
Below is the beginning of our story, we hope you enjoy it. There is much more to tell.
In the world of Philip K. Dick's book "We Can Remember It For You Wholesale," memory implants are commonplace, and people can purchase false memories of exotic vacations and thrilling adventures. As he is writing this book, the author becomes fascinated by the music of a new ensemble called "Tonal Recall," that are beginning to gain notice for their innovative compositions and unique reinterpretations.
Philip K. Dick arranges a secret meeting with the band, driven by a need to share with the musicians his ideas about the malleability of memory, the subjective nature of reality, and the intrinsic connection of those concepts to music.
As Tonal Recall prepares for a series of performances, including an event hosted by Arnold Schwarzenegger, they begin to experience strange phenomena that seem to blur the lines between memory and reality. They receive anonymous messages urging them to remember things they never experienced, and they start to doubt their own identities. They even question whether or not the Governator’s event itself is real, if Arnie ever truly was reprogrammed by the resistance, or if he’s been working for Skynet all along.
At the event, Arnold “Mr. Universe” Schwarzenegger introduces the band by saying, “Listen to them if you want to live.” As they begin to play, the music gradually takes on a surreal quality, and the audience is entranced. Suddenly, the members of "Tonal Recall" find themselves transported into a world that seems a hybrid of "We Can Remember It For You Wholesale” and a movie named after a pun on the band’s name called “Total Recall.”
The group discovers that they are actually secret agents on a mission to stop a dangerous conspiracy and that Arnold Schwarzenegger, now dressed as Conan The Barbarian, is their handler. As they battle against the forces of evil, they begin to realize that music has the power to shape reality itself and that perhaps they can best help the cause by returning home and playing some charity events and a few bars and maybe a festival or two…
As the adventure comes to an end, Philip K. Dick reappears to explain that music transcends time and space and that it may hold the key to unlocking the mysteries of the universe, or at least grant them the ability to earn a couple of bucks playing on a street corner for tips.
